  Tampon - Hardness (Shore-A)

Degree of hardness (Shore-A) – identification colour please see tampon base plate

The hardness of the tampon is stated as Shore-A based on DIN 53505. Tampons usually offered have a hardness between 0 and 18 Shore-A.

1 to 2 Shore-A is considered a soft tampon,
6 Shore-A is considered medium hardness and
12 Shore-A is considered a hard tampon.
18 Shore-A and more is considered a special tampon usually reserved for rotation tampon printing (tampon rollers), (here 55 shore-A are used)

The medium hard tampon with 6 Shore-A will be recommended as standard due to experimental research (included with all TAMPOPRINT standard tampon printing machines).

Tampons are also classified with the hardness identification Shore-00.

50 Shore-00 = 6 Shore-A.

The advantage of the Shore-00 dimensioning lies in the very soft range below 0 Shore-A because also here it is still possible to specify a degree of hardness.

1 Shore-A tampons are selected: 3 Shore-A tampons are selected: 6 Shore-A tampons are selected:
  • for sensitive, very fragile surfaces, printing parts

A 1 Shore-A tampon tends to vibrate more easily due to its softness, which can usually be resolved by reducing the printing speed.

  • for strongly convex surfaces

and are often used to reduce the needed printing power that causes distortion (at max. image size of each pad printing machine).

  • for universal application ranges

and come standard with our standard tampon printing machines – e.g. tampon item No. 084410 for the Sealed Ink Cup 60 E.

12 Shore-A and 18 Shore-A tampons are selected: Versions of the tampon base plates:
  • for structured surfaces
  • for flat printing parts shapes
  • for tampon forms with a low volume
  • for use of flat tampon shapes
  • for extremely high printing speeds
tend to vibrate less due to their hardness

Please note:

high printing power is necessary, ideal: use mechanically driven tampon printing machines.

Base plates Version HP Base plates Version AP

Available in wood or aluminium as perdata base. The hardness (Shore-A) of the TAMPOPRINT AG tampons is reflected by the colour-coding of the base plate.

1 Shore-A= blue
3 Shore-A= red
6 Shore-A= green
12 Shore-A= white
18 Shore-A-= black

HP = Wooden base plate with M6 drive-in nut.

This allows the user to bolt the pad directly and safely to the tampon coupler.

AP = Aluminium base plate with threaded blind hole (M4, M5 or M6).

This allows the user to bolt the pad directly and safely to the tampon coupler.
